About the role

As Head of Tax for the Adecco Group in Germany, you will be responsible for overseeing all tax-related matters, including corporate tax, VAT, and employment tax. You will manage and lead a German tax team of six people in a professional and disciplinary capacity. Your role will be a high impact, hands on role, essential in ensuring compliance with German tax laws and regulations while supporting the business. You will be providing support to the three Global Business Units (GBU’s) Adecco, LHH and Akkodis in Germany. You will have a local reporting line to the Country Chief Financial Officer (CFO) and a functional reporting line to Group Tax at the HQ. You will work closely with the finance leadership team, other corporate functions, and business leaders in a proactive and collaborative way to achieve the Group’s strategic goals.

What you'll be doing

Tax Compliance

  • Review and managing of the accurate preparation and submission of all required tax returns, including VAT, corporate tax, and other relevant taxes. Working closely and collaboratively with the Finance Operations team and specifically the Group Reporting Team.
  • Staying up to date on changes in German tax legislation and assessing their potential impact on German operations. You will proactively provide regular updates to the relevant teams, the Country CFO and Group Tax.
  • Managing the calculation of employee benefits for the taxation in the wage tax returns
  • Continuous further development and improvement of the existing tax compliance management system for wage tax, VAT and income taxes.
  • Managing transfer pricing policies and documentation to ensure compliance with transfer pricing regulations and consistency with group tax policies.
  • Leading the group's relationship with the German authorities. Serving as the primary point of contact for the income tax, VAT and wage tax audits. Strategically planning for future audits and reviews to reduce risks by enhancing processes and controls in collaboration with other corporate functions.

Tax Reporting

  • Reviewing and approving group US GAAP corporate tax reports and calculations prepared by the tax team and calculating and assessing tax risk reserves.
  • Ensuring the local German corporate tax accounting is completed in a timely and accurate manner for the annual German statutory accounts.
  • Collating, reviewing and validating tax payment data for corporate income tax, VAT and employer payroll tax to be included in the annual group Tax Transparency Report. Analysing trends and providing insight.
  • Supporting Group Tax in DAC6 obligations, Country by Country Reporting and the annual Tax Transparency reporting.

Strategic projects

  • Working closely with finance, legal, and other teams to integrate tax considerations into business strategies.
  • Managing from a tax perspective the German impact of M&A transactions, reorganisations, dividend planning and the international tax aspects of commercial transactions.
  • Implementing a system to calculate and apply the safe harbours for the German Domestic Minimum Top Up Tax regimes (OECD pillar 2).
  • Advising operational management within the three GBU’s on day-to-day or ad hoc matters.
  • Conducting customer contract reviews to assess tax implications, protect the business from tax risks and optimize tax efficiency, including managing withholding tax requirements.
  • Reviewing umbrella company structures and ensuring compliance with tax regulations.
  • Leading corporate entity rationalisation projects to simplify and streamline the corporate structure.
  • Communicating tax strategies, risks, and opportunities effectively to senior management.

About you
  • You will be self-motivated and driven. You will bring excellent analytical, communication, and interpersonal skills to this role and have a proven ability to work both collaboratively across multiple functions and independently, as required.
  • A bachelor's degree and a master's degree in a relevant field, a professional accounting qualification and/or professional tax qualification (Certified Tax Consultant) is required.
  • Extensive experience (8+ years) with a focus on German taxation, including corporate tax, payroll tax and VAT. Proven strong knowledge of German tax laws and experiences in guiding senior and junior colleagues in an efficient and respectful manner.
  • Given the nature of our business, employment tax experience is beneficial.
  • Experience in a multinational corporation and a Big Four accounting firm is advantageous.
