The Director Safety evaluates current safety protocols at client sites, and designs, develops, and implements strategic, client-specific safety programs according to current laws and best practices. Oversees organization's environmental health and safety programs and procedures at various client sites to safeguard employees and to ensure that all facilities follow regulations. Interprets internal and external business issues and recommends solutions/best practices. Serves as subject matter expert, solves complex problems, and takes a broad perspective to identify solutions. Works independently, with guidance in only the most complex situations. The primary objective is to ensure the safety of associates and colleagues and to reduce and control accident frequency and severity. Director of Safety keeps current on jurisdictional updates and creates policy to be in compliance with the laws.
What you’ll be doing- Act as a liaison between Adecco branch offices and their clients to facilitate reducing and controlling on the job accidents/injuries.
- Work with Adecco on-site facilities to roll out behavior-based safety techniques with a focus on ergonomics
- Evaluate, assess, and alter safety procedures and policies for the benefit of associates and clients.
- Review and suggest periodic updates to Adecco’s Job Servicing Guidelines based on loss producing job titles, field questions and field compliance trends needing attention or improvement
- Review any Client Site Safety Evaluation requiring a manual review on a daily basis
- Develops and conducts branch, regional and client specific training.
- Support new business opportunities within the organization
- Ensures compliance with all regulatory bodies and standards (including OSHA, EPA, etc.).
- Acts a resource to address any OSHA complaints, citations, and fines.
- Research safety regulations and policies and institutes changes to ensure compliance.
- Tracks incident metrics and applies and reports findings.
- Leads injury and incident inquiries and evaluations and develops plans to mitigate future incidents.
- Serves as subject matter expert regarding safety protocols, laws, best practices, and programs.
- Acts as liaison to client and Risk Management department.
- Leads and/or participates in special projects and performs other duties as assigned.
- Collaborate with safety partner (Marsh Advisory) to reduce frequency and severity at top 15 clients
- Work in Data Navigator system to make sure safety recommendations are implemented at the on-site level
Bachelor’s degree in risk management, business, or a related field with a minimum of seven (10) years of related safety program creation and management in a manufacturing and/or distribution environment required. Willingness and ability to travel (up to 20%) is required. Ergonomic certification is preferred.
- Skilled in communicating effectively verbally and in writing with all levels of management and non-management employees.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
- Advanced ability to identify complex problems, review related information and develop and implement solutions.
- Ability to set priorities, meet deadlines and multitask.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality of all information, including knowledge of and ability to interpret Occupational Safety & Health administration regulations and the Health Insurance Portability & Accountability Act (HIPAA).
- Advanced ability to evaluate and/or enhance existing and new processes.
- Knowledge of and the ability to understand the concepts, best practices and standards for handling and resolving a variety of workers’ compensation, liability, and property claims.
- Advanced knowledge of and the ability to interpret and understand related federal, local and state laws, rules and regulations.
- Knowledge of commercial insurance coverage types, products and uses.
- Knowledge of basic medical terms and claims management for workers’ compensation.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office products, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.
